About

Founded in 2019 by Jennifer Niles and Furman Haynes and incubated by CityBridge Education, CityWorks DC is a leading collaborator in the DC education-to-employment ecosystem. Led by Niles, DC’s former Deputy Mayor for Education, CityWorks DC is devoted to reshaping the landscape of education and career development opportunities for DC youth and young adults of color to improve their social and economic mobility.

To compete for and secure the high-demand, high-wage jobs in the DC Metro region, all young people - especially those from historically marginalized groups and/or those who grow up in low income households - need the “social mobility trifecta”: industry-valued credentials and certifications; relevant, paid work experience; and social capital.

Delivering the social mobility trifecta at scale requires significant changes to K-12, college and early employment, as well as the development of strategic, innovative programs with predictable outcomes.

CityWorks DC is committed to executing initiatives that create the conditions for system reform through policy, coalition-building, data systems, and advocacy on behalf of improving the career outcomes of the city’s youth.

No solo entity can make these system changes alone. We’re proud to work with our affiliates and partners and grateful for their shared dedication.
